Our favourite things to do in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The Ngorongoro Crater is part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area – a UNESCO world heritage site of great beauty. The crater is a truly unique ecosystem with unparalleled landscapes – guests traverse the floor of the collapsed caldera, encircled by the towering walls of the volcano rim.

The nutrient-rich grasses draw 25,000 larger animals, including the black-maned lion and black rhino, 100 species of birds, and the Big 5, so the game viewing is truly phenomenal.

  • Standing on the deck at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge on the crater’s rim, looking 2,000 feet down at elephants ambling and beautifully designed zebras flowing across the acacia-dotted landscape
  • Reveling in the world-uniqueness of the 100-square mile crater, standing on its grassy floor
  • Breathing in the pure air of the African highlands
  • Watching hippos galumph in waterholes

Day 1Arrival

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be met and driven to a preferred hotel/lodge. The Overnight there marks the beginning of your Tanzania Luxury Safari

Days 2Arusha

In the morning after breakfast (around 7:30 AM) your safari guide will arrive at the hotel and inform the receptionist that he is waiting for you. After meeting up with your driver you will travel to Arusha National Park, and by 10:00 AM you will already be on your first safari!

After finishing the registration process at the gate, accompanied by a guide, you will start your 1 -hour walk to Tululusia waterfall through the habitat of wild animals, such as buffalos, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and monkeys. After having rest near the waterfall, you will come back to the car and continue game-drive around the territory of the national park.

After having lunch in a special area, you will continue game-drive and later in the evening will be transferred to a hotel located on the edge of the Ngorongoro volcanic crater.

Day 3The Ngorongoro Crater (Conservation Area)

On this day it is best to leave the hotel as early as possible so you can see the variety of animals that are only active during the morning hours; breakfast will be packed in lunchboxes specifically for this purpose. At 6:30 AM you will set off for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and after about an hour you will already be inside the crater.

Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most famous and interesting of Tanzania’s national parks because here you can find the greatest number of different animal species per square kilometre. You will have the chance to see buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippopotamus and feline species such as caracals and servals. The luckiest travellers might even see a rhinoceros, an animal whose numbers are rapidly declining.

By lunchtime, you will arrive at the lakeside, where you will be offered lunchboxes, after which the safari will continue.

In the evening you will be transferred back to the hotel in Arusha.

Day 4 Karatu / Arusha – Kilimanjaro International Airport
