This extended 8-day version of the Machame Route is ideal for better acclimatization, giving climbers more time to adjust to the altitude and boosting chances of success. From the very first step to the final push to the summit, our expert guides ensure your journey is safe, supportive, and unforgettable.
Day 1 – Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (2,835m): Begin your trek through montane rainforest, encountering waterfalls, ancient trees, and lush vegetation. 5–7 hours of hiking.
Day 2 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp (3,850m): Climb out of the forest into moorland terrain with wide views and giant heathers. 4–6 hours of hiking.
Day 3 – Shira Camp to Lava Tower (4,630m) then down to Barranco Camp (3,976m): This is an important acclimatization day. Ascend high and sleep low to aid adaptation. 6–8 hours of trekking.
Day 4 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (3,995m): Conquer the iconic Barranco Wall, then hike through alpine valleys. 4–5 hours of trekking.
Day 5 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673m): A shorter but steep hike through rocky paths. Rest early in preparation for the summit attempt. 3–4 hours.
Day 6 – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m): Begin your midnight ascent under the stars. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Mweka for a well-earned rest. 12–15 hours of trekking.
Day 7 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m): A gentle descent through the rainforest leads to the exit gate. Receive your summit certificate and celebrate! 3–4 hours.
Day 8 – Departure Day: Relax at your hotel, enjoy a cultural tour in Moshi, or transfer to the airport for your flight.
